In a sustainable tomorrow technology is created cooperatively and shared freely around the world - and some such projects exist today! The Open Source Hardware movement promotes collaborative creation and distribution of even the most complex devices without locking them with patents or intellectual property. OpenFlexure is a great example of it - an automated digital microscope which can be used in both scientific and medical environments - and can be 3D-printed anywhere in the world! It was initially designed at United Kingdom universities, but was then tested, used and improved by a community now spanning over 70 countries! It was assessed for malaria research in Tanzania, used to measure soil health in Argentina and water quality monitoring in Ukraine. You can read more about similar open projects at Appropedia, which hosts multiple collaboratively developed sustainable tech... Via: OpenHardware

5.  Silicon wafer precision scribing system by Remi-Rafael

View In: Industrial
This design is a precision scribing system for silicon wafer. For a better idea of how its used please look at this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sz8WmsRpBG4In microelectronic, multiple devices are made on silicon wafers by photolithography before the wafer is cut to separate each device. Dicing is generally done with special saws but it is also possible (and more economical) to use a diamond tip to scratch (scribe) the wafer and break (cleave) it over its crystalline directions. This device is designed to make the scribing more precise at a low cost. It can also be used for glass. Here is a detailed building guide on Instructables. https://www.instructables.com/Build-a-High-Precision-Silicon-Wafer-Scriber-Under/To build this device you will need:Linear rail: 3X 20cm long MGN12 rails with 3X MGN12C (short) blocks and 1X MGN12H (long) block Linear rail: 1X 7.5cm MGN7 rail with 1X MGN7H (long) blockSmall digital pen microscopeMicrometer head 1X 0-13mm and 1X 0-6.5mmVarious M3 and M2 bolts and nutsM3 4.2mm diameter 4mm long melt insertsIf you like this model you may also have a use for my 3D printed cleaving pliers. They come quite handy when making small wafer fragments:...
